Zambezi MP3's: Somebody to Love, Suburban Shoes, Baby, I Love You Zambezi began more than a decade ago when four friends, fresh out of college, decided to combine their diverse experiences and shared love for all music into something fresh. That band, which existed from 1991 to 1995 in various forms and under the full name Zambezi Express, became a popular institution of the Annapolis music community, a regular at all of the local establishments. From that unit sprang a number of other performing units, including the Dirty City Band, Hussy, Meg & Jeff, and Underfoot. Now, ten years later, three of the original four have reunited with a new drummer, percussionist, keyboardist, and female vocalist to create a new musical vision. Much has changed in the mean time. Four of the members have lived and played elsewhere. All have grown musically. The songwriting is better, the playing is better, the vision is clearer. And yet that core friendship remains, the glue that brought this group together in the first place. And this friendship, this good feeling, permeates the music, beckoning the listener to come join the party.
And so Zambezi is back, better than ever. Manys voices, two guitars, keyboards, saxophone, blues harp, bass, percussion and drums. The give and pull of improvisation, the funky rhythm of New Orleans, the groove of Jamaican reggae, the soul of Classic American R&B, and the mind-bending jams of psychedelic and latin rock - all the elements of a good time. It is a hip-shaking, soul-quaking, bone-shaking, love-making machine.

Tom Bodor - Acoustic and Electric Guitar Tom began playing guitar in college when he should have been studying. He found plenty of time to let his inspiration take its course during the early years, playing a style reminiscent of the folk-psychedelic era of the 1960s and 1970s. His style combines influences from Jerry Garcia to Leo Kottke with unique timing and rhythm patterns that weave throughout each tune. Tom was a founding member of the original Zambezi Express (ca. 1991-1995), and was often seen sitting in with other bands including the Carter Brothers, Dirty City Band, August West and Meg Murray & Jeff Muller. Prior to reinventing the current version of Zambezi, he had taken a hiatus from playing live to further develop and refine his technique, find a wife, and have a little daughter named Jane. |

Her favorite composers are Scarlatti, Beethoven, Chopin, Bartok and Debussy. Since her youth she also never missed a chance to play rock, R&B and jazz with local bands in Pescara, Italy covering everything from U2 and the Police to Dave Brubeck and George Gershwin. Lakin Ducker - vocals, guitar, saxophone, blues harp Lakin began singing and playing guitar in his early childhood when he and his siblings were asked to perform regularly for his parent¹s dinner parties. That early immersion in music motivated Lakin to pursue his interests in folk, rhythm & blues and funk. Over the years with much travel Lakin has been exposed to many other musical styles. He has become very influenced by Amercican jazz, Brazilian samba, bossa nova and Afro-Cuban music. Lakin was has been naturally drawn to song writing. Lakin¹s odd combination of musical influences is evident in the music that he writes and co-writes. He has performed in North America, South America and Europe in everything from concert to subway halls. Lakin has played music with the other members of Zambezi for over two decades. There is a powerful synergy in the band that occurs after many years of knowing each other. Lakin often likes to wear an Australian hat. It makes certain songs sound better. |
